What is dance outside of the visual medium?
In go places and do things: tactile dances audiences are presented with a menu of 4 scores. Each score is performed by 4 movers who lead a single, blind-folded audience member through a tactile experience - incorporating elements of contact improvisation and shiatsu, and using props, sound scores, and other non-sight-based elements. Responsive to the physical needs and reactions of each performer and audience member each tactile dance is a unique, co-created experience.
Choreographed by Ella-Gabriel Mason in collaboration with the performers
Performed by Ella-Gabriel Mason, Laura Stokes, Riva Strauss, and Elizabeth Wack
Premiered at BOOM Concepts in Pittsburgh, PA in 2014
Presented at the Irma Freeman Center in Pittsburgh, PA as part of Rhinestone Steel Queer Arts Festival in 2014
Presented at Bunker Projects in Pittsburgh, PA as part of the Pittsburgh Performance Art Festival in 2014
